The Opportunity:

Croptix, headquartered in State College, PA, has developed a handheld, smartphone-compatible plant health sensor for farmers to diagnose crop disease early, and take effective action to reduce losses due to disease. The sensor is initially being developed for citrus growers to diagnose the devastating citrus greening disease, up to two-years prior to visual symptoms, and help sustain profitable yields while securing the longevity of their citrus groves.


Croptix is expanding and is ready to hire a smart, exceptional individual who is capable of adding even more horsepower to our development, performance, validation and production systems/processes, allowing Croptix to deliver new tools our farmers so they can detect and mitigate crop loss before it’s too late.


Croptix is offering a 12-15 week temporary appointment as a Plant Biotech Application Engineer, at 32-40 hours a week, mid-May through August. The Application Engineer will test and prepare field sensors for future deployment as well as test new versions of sensors and software releases. They will also create instructional information on how to use field sensors and other products using various forms of media (i.e. photographs, video tutorials etc.). The Application Engineer will work closely with company staff experiencing first hand day-to-day operation at Croptix. Devotion, dedication and diligence in science project progress is paramount. Previous or current involvement in biology, horticulture, agronomy or analytical chemistry labs or projects is preferred. The position reports directly to the Croptix CEO.

Job Duties and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Operate new field sensor equipment to collect diagnostic test and calibration data

  • Identify sensor design issues and help modify design for next generation builds

  • Interpret data, analyze results, and provide test reports of field sensor equipment

  • Prepare field sensor equipment for shipping and deployment

  • Perform tests of next gen sensor equipment and new operation software releases

  • Prepare documentation and video tutorials on Croptix products and technology

  • Prepare technical reports and summaries

Minimum Requirements-Education, Skills and Qualifications:

  • Current or planned degree in a discipline such as biology, horticulture, plant sciences, agriculture engineering or similar

  • Experience working with scientific testing equipment

  • Experience analyzing and compiling data

  • Some experience with CAD software such as Solidworks or Fusion

  • Demonstrate good communication skills

  • Must have strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate information with attention to detail and accuracy

  • Must be able to work as part of a team

  • Must be safety conscious and wear required personal protective equipment

  • Preferred 1+ years of related laboratory, agronomic, or horticultural experience

  • Preferred some experience with photography and videography
